Bad Elster - City of Culture and Festival
"Light and air, forest and water, salt and moor and especially the dulcet silence – these are the seven medical elements of Bad Elster."
(Vogtländischer Wanderführer, 1924)

Sophisticated
and grand the famous Saxon State Spa Bad Elster in the border triangle between
Bohemia, Bavaria and Saxony welcomes you. After it was first mentioned in 1324,
the first spring was analysed and dedicated to the Duke Moritz von
Sachsen-Zeitz. The same mineral spring was also valued by the renowned German
poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in his epic “Hermann and Dorothea”
The first official bathing season was opened in 1848. Since then the tradition-rich “Royal Saxon State Spa” belongs to the most renowned spas in Germany. The natural resources of highly effective moor and the bubbling mineral- and carbon dioxide springs are only some of the reasons for the more than 160-years of spa tradition of Bad Elster.

The
magnificent architecture goes back to the royal past and enchants you even today
with the unique nostalgic bath house, the Art Nouveau mansions and the historic
park, a 60 hectare nature reserve since 1980.
The reputation of a culture- and festival town is kept alive by the extraordinary cultural highlights. The seven historic locations, e.g. the famous King Albert Theatre, the prestigious Royal Spa House, the Art Gallery, the Nature Theatre and the three Music Pavilions, lie within parkland and offer a wonderful unique ambiance.
The Saxon State Spa offers an elegant atmosphere and modern infrastructure as well as high quality treatments - the best conditions for your well-being and relaxation.

As
guests of Bad Elster you can also enjoy over 1000 cultural annual events of all
genres with famous artists, ensembles and international celebrities.
